Great news! Mike lost a bet, and instead of shaving his head, has agreed to host The Not So Morning Show YouTube channel on the website.
Our first video moves a little off from our podcast format. Introducing a series that includes the Antarctic Snow Cruiser from Admiral Richard Byrd’s third Antarctic expedition (1939-1941). The nation and its newspapers followed Byrd’s every journey during his explorative heyday. We look back here.
One young Marine Sergeant traveled with the four-man team as one of the operators of the Snow Cruiser and their radioman. As the radioman he kept complete records of communications logged. As an amateur photographer he also took hundreds of photographs.
While the Snow Cruiser at best could be described as a failure, this Marine had a mountain named after him for his efforts. He also amassed a mountain of information on the expedition saved when he returned.
A second story of interest happens 10 years later. The Korean War as seen through the eyes of a wounded and captured American officer. Held Prisoner of War for nearly 3 years throughout North Korea and China POW camps. Directly from the written memoirs and historical documents of the survivor.
Both of these stories are of the same man, few in history have been held in captivity after having a mountain named for them.
